Graphics Package / Titles: Design, Direction, Art Direction
I was asked to pitch for the graphics package for the 2012 ARIA Awards (Australian Recording Industry Association). Even though I won the job, I was sadly unable to continue working on the project past the pitch stage due to other commitments. Having handed over to other designers at the company I was working through, the brief then changed anyway, and so what you see here never made it to air.
The geometric designs are a simple and modular concept based on the forms and colours of the ARIA logo. With bright, vibrant colours and a snappy, playful and surprising animation style, the execution harmonizes perfectly with the music showcased at the ARIA awards night, and sets the tone for the ARIAs as a celebration of modern Australian music – bright, exciting, playful, and adventurous.
Designs included frames for an opening sequence and titles, options for transitions and straps/lower thirds, as well as type specimens and layouts.
A background of either paper-grey provides a neutral background for shapes to literally pop off the page. Animated repetitions of these shapes appear, are brought to life, and cascade through the screen in the neon-bright colour palette of the logo. Some blocks appear as flat colour, others act as windows through to layers below, or wipe elements off screen to reveal others. A tower of stacked shapes rotates one after another, forming fans and waterfalls of colour. Gently spinning triangular pyramids (the ARIA trophy) float slowly over the shapes below.
