Bat Eyes: Title Sequence
Film: Compositing, Typography, Titles (Flame, After Effects)
16 year old Adam cruelly teases a classmate. When he seeks her out to apologise, she has quite different plans for him. Years later, when least expected, the memory of this event comes back to haunt Adam.
The titles and credits for Bat Eyes make use of two of the film’s main visual ideas, the most obvious of these being the Snellen Eye Chart and Phoropter device. This is used to reveal both the title and the credit slates, beginning with an out-of-focus Snellen chart, and resolving to complete clarity as the optometrist adjusts lenses up and down.
The colours of the title card echo the strong pink/blue pastel colour theme present throughout the film – both in the classroom, and much more strongly in Bat Eye’s bedroom, and again make use of the focus device as we rack from the title to Bat Eyes herself.
